Villa Selong Selo 3

My family of 5 stayed in this resort in Feb 2019 and it was just an amazing experience. The resort is built on a hill top and the views are just gorgeous. We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa booked though Luxury Escapes and the whole experience was just wonderful. We were met at the airport and about 40 mnts later we drove up to this stunning place. The views from the reception area and every corner of the resort were simply amazing. Check-in was seamless, we were escorted to our villa and given a complete brief of everything available. The mobile phone with a direct whatsapp link to your private butler is a great touch and we did everything from order all our meals, to booked massages and transport to the beach and into town from that 1 device. The villa quality is top notch and you can see that no expense was spared in the build. From the design, down to the actual stone used it is apparent that alot of time and effort went into every aspect.The rooms were spacious, bathrooms luxurious and each room had a huge balcony to enjoy the outdoors, which was also meticulously designed. The huge windows that open up completely bringing the outside indoors made us enjoy the beautiful weather daily. The whole family had a blast in the villa's infinity pool and the most amazing things of all was the service received from the staff. The staff were highly qualified and nothing we asked was ever a problem. Everyone goes out of their way to make the customers feel comfortable and it was an absolute pleasure being there because they made us feel so welcome. Even the resort manager Stuart took time to talk to us and find out what he could do to make us more comfortable. Our overall experience was amazing and the only reason I did not give the resort 5 stars is because of 2 things that marred our experience. First was the internet. I get that we were quite a distance away from everything, however for the quality of hotel i expected the internet connection to be much better than it was. Especially since the T.V was dependant on the internet, and with 2 teenage kids with me, at times the internet cutting off for long periods of time was very annoying. The second were the bugs. Now I do understand that it is totally normal to have creepy crawlies visiting when you are in a forest area but the amount of bugs that were coming into the villa was horrible. I'm not talking about 1 fly or a mosquito, but some seriously scary looking things. This normally happened in the evening after the turn down service because they used to come in and spray the rooms and that's when they all come out. One night we had to call reception to send someone to remove the fallen bugs and we counted a total of 11 spiders, scorpions, worms, beetle looking things and I don't even know what some of them were. The bug expert tried to reassure us and said that they were not dangerous, but being city folk it was a bit daunting seeing that everyday. The fact that the villa was so clean also didn't help because the minute a bug is around, you can't miss it. We did share our feedback and we could see that every effort was made to make us more comfortable. If you want a relaxing high end holiday and don't mind a little bit of nature in your space then Lombok, specifically Selong Selo is the place. Thank-you all for making our holiday truly memorable. This is not a holiday for those that need to have lots of shops etc as you are off the grid, far flung in the South (most hotels ie Oberoi are two hours to the North) yet only 30 min from the airport. Selong is pretty idyllic, perfect for a few reclusive laid back days, the ( mostly local ) staff were the most welcoming people, as the wifi was not strong (I could not even download a magazine), the best thing to do is just chill with a good book & some wine, and just watch the unfolding panorama. (the front desk staff can organize excursions but I had such a short stay it seemed sensible to stay put). Was a bit apprehensive about service after reading previous TA reviews so I appreciated the phone in the room that allows you to whatsapp your butler or the front desk, on top of that, Stuart and Grace were running the show, super helpful and receptive to feedback. In terms of insects that were mentioned in previous reviews, I did have one fly that annoying managed to slip in & hang out in the living room with me, other than that had one lone mosquito bite at the restaurant. This place is still in pre open phase so there is construction work all over, but some things I wrote down for Grace and Stuart as hiccups turned out to be a non issue. Ie the switch to the bedroom ceiling lights are the “gradual” type that needs to be adjusted (I just assumed they were broken). Rating the overall experience a four because of the food at Aura which is limited in option and except for the Indonesian chicken, not very tasty. Other than that, I look forward to coming back after the construction is completed.
